The Last Pre-AT Hike Day
I had another 6 hours of driving and three states today. I drove the rest of North Carolina, then South Carolina, and into Georgia. Funny thing...I was talking to Lydia on the phone while I was still in NC. I told her I was almost into Georgia. A few miles later, I crossed the border into...South Carolina. Oops, forgot about that little thing called South Carolina!

I am thru-hiker number 1321.

This sign is usually inside the Base Camp room, but the guy was kind enough to bring it out for us for photos.

This is the infamous “Arch” at the beginning of the Approach Trail.

Home for the night.

There are two beds in this room. Sandy is in the other bed.
I arrived at Enterprise in Dawsonville, and returned the car. Then I walked around the building to the Quality Inn where Lydia picked me up. She had been to North Springs to get another hiker named Amanda. Lydia drove us up to Amicalola Falls State Park where we got our hang tags, and signed the registration book.

I also took this photo of LB (Little Bike). This is what I take on trips where I’m not riding (see? I always have a bike with me!).

Lydia then drove me to Dahlonega to the hostel I’m staying in tonight.

There are just two other hikers here. A German gal named Sandy, and a guy (don’t know his name). Sandy started on Monday, and shuttled here to dry out her stuff and get a shower. I probably won’t see her on the trail as she will shuttle back to where she got off.

Tomorrow I hit the trail runn...scratch that...walking very slowly. My pack is so heavy. I think I’m going to eat some of the extra food tonight. Shuttle picks up here at 8:15.
