Day 17 and 18-Going Back to What We Worked so Hard to Avoid
We got up and packed like usual. Mouse didn’t seem in too much of a hurry to get going. She also was kind of waffling on what she was going to do. We said we’d see her down the trail.
Just waiting...

Day’s end amongst the Appalachian Mountains.
Instead of going north, we turned back south, and with heavy hearts started hiking back. We planned to go back to Licklog Gap campsite for the night. I wanted to call to arrange a shuttle into town when I had service.
We arrived at Cold Spring Shelter, and took a break for lunch. I made the call to arrange the shuttle. The driver asked where we were. The driver said we could be picked up at the next gap which was 1.2 miles away. We agreed and headed down.
Just waiting...
The shuttle arrived and we headed to town. It was a beautiful drive.
Primo and group were still in town. They were surprised to see us. It was good to catch up. The group that had numbered 7 was now down to 3. Forward, who had fallen, sadly, had to go home with a dislocated shoulder. I’m sure she was very sad and disappointed. I was so sorry to not get to see her again.
I told Primo my plan to hang out in town until they did the next section (that Sure Foot and I had already done), then shuttle with them around the Smokies. Sure Foot was still planning to be picked up by his son.
The next day...
I went down to see Primo, Boston, and Veg off. They decided to stay another day. While it means I will be here another day, it was nice to really hammer out the plan. Sure Foot disappeared for a moment, then came back, and said he was going to continue hiking! He talked to his son and told him not to come. I’m very happy our little duo gets to continue!
We walked to the grocery store to get some fresh food...salad, fruit, avocados...sure beats ramen bombs...
*I’ve been intentionally vague as to where we are. I probably won’t post again for the duration of our stay (nothing much to post anyway). Just know I am fine, and will continue.

Sounds like a great adventure. That TMI part was hilarious! I presume much more effective than caffeine! Keep on trucking!
