Day 27-Another Day, Another Day on the Trail
April 14-8.6 miles-AT mile marker 294.5

Foggy on the trail.

Dinner in the bag is a “Roni bomb” (Mashed potatoes and cheddar Rice-a-Roni). Add a packet of tuna, and voilá, dinner is served (notice I even have an elegant, almost clean Tyvek tablecloth...okay, so the table is the ground, but hey at least there’s a tablecloth!).
Today was not really anything unusual. There wasn’t even much in the AWOL Guide for today. I did call the Hickory Hollow Hostel to see if they were possibly open. They were not. Oh well...we’ll stick to our current plan.
It was foggy and cold this morning, so I started out in my puffy jacket for awhile until I started to warm up. Later in the day the sun came out, but it was still chilly. It wasn’t until we started really climbing that I went down to my stinky pink shirt.
Foggy on the trail.
We had the seemingly usual number of climbs. Even though we did 8.6 miles, we still arrived at Little Laurel Shelter at 2:30. Smiley was already here, and so was Bags (I had talked to Bags as he left the shelter this morning-hadn’t seen him since before the Smokies). The best news from Bags was that the Laurel Hostel (2 days away for us) is open. He was hoping to get there tonight. Hopefully that’s true (I will call as soon as I have service). If so, we will take a zero there, and do laundry, and of course, shower (like 5 times).
As we were eating our dinner, a guy we haven’t seen yet, Deo, showed up. He hiked from Hot Springs today (sheesh!). Said Primo, Boston, and Veg were in Hot Springs yesterday. That means they are still just a day behind us.
Sorry not many photos today, but here’s one of my elegant dinner set up.
