Day 66-Sunrise!
May 23-9.6 miles-McAfee Knob to Daleville via Four Pines Shuttle

Here comes the sun do do do do!

Me and Sure Foot

It was awfully early...I needed a nap.

Watch out, that first step is a doozy!

Careful Flat Will!

LB doing her best to stay upright.

My favorite little color splashes

Dusty on the trail.

Oh look! It’s another one of my favs.

I like this way of getting across the rocks.

Waaaay off in the distance is Dragon’s Tooth.

Dusty went to scare it off the trail with her trekking pole and only seemed to anger the evil serpent! Finally, Sure Foot managed to get the Danger Noodle to exit the trail. I ran as fast as I could (sadly, not very fast) in case the venomous Black Devil (okay okay...probably not venomous) decided to come after me. It took me awhile to uncurl my toes.

This is what 600+ miles looks like.

Utter deliciousness!

And, of course, dessert!

Left to right-back row Dusty, Green bean, Music Man, me Sure Foot, Blueberry front row Chili and Fantastic. Today was the first day the restaurant allowed outdoor dining. Service was a little slow, but it was okay.
Sunrise was at 6:05AM. We got up at 5:45. There were two guys (day hikers) who had hiked up for the sunrise too.

We got on the trail at 7:30. We had 9.6 miles to get back to Four Pines so we could shuttle back to Daleville. We wanted to get to Daleville early enough so we could get all our town chores done to get back on trail tomorrow. Still, I stopped to take some photos along the way.

We stopped and ate lunch in a cow pasture (don’t worry no one had cow pie for dessert). Then, as we were continuing on along the creek with Dusty in the lead, she came to an abrupt stop. Looking ahead was this big evil snake.

We arrived back at Four Pines about 1:30. Nature Boy shuttled is back to Daleville, and to the Howard Johnson. I got my new shoes.

We got straight to work on showers and laundry. Then it was dinner and resupply. We ate at 3 Pigs BBQ. We had the best burgers ever!

Five of our other hiker friends came to the restaurant too. We got this group photo.

These last two days (snake notwithstanding) have been two of the best days on trail. Oh, and the best news ever...Dusty is staying on trail with us...for now (small chunks)!!!
