Day 73-The Road Walk Was Harder Than the Trail
May 30-10 miles + 2.4 road-Hog Camp Campsite to Montebello Campground-AT mile-825.4

The sun was trying very hard to burn off the fog. It eventually was successful.

Fog going away.

Pretty flowers.

In Guthook, someone commented that the road was graded by Satan. I would agree. Plus it was a steep downhill. Then we had 3/4 of a mile on a paved road. That was harder than walking the trail!

Dogs on the grill along with beans and carrots.

Happy Birthday, Dusty!
Well, it rained last night, but it was done by morning. Garlic, Music Man, and Boomerang took off around 6:00ish. They were going to come into Montebello to resupply, then head back to the trail. However, they ended up staying with us at the campground. Second night with all 6 of us. This is getting to be quite fun!
This morning it was very foggy. We hit the trail about 6:45.

The trail was pretty easy with mostly ridge walking. Also, it was not nearly as humid as the last couple of days, so much more pleasant hiking weather.

We got to Spy Rock Rd about 11:30. From there we had a 2.4 mile road walk to Montebello. Unfortunately, this was what the first part looked like.

We arrived in Montebello (it has a post office, but not much of a town), and went into the store to register for camping and to get our resupply. I also downed a 32 oz bottle of Powerade. We were to be on site 10, but it was too wet. We moved to a different site.

Music Man bought hot dogs, buns, and ketchup. I bought firewood, and we had a good campground dinner. I also had some ravioli (because, well, I don’t have to carry the can). I even heated it in my pot (because, well, I could wash the pot in the faucet).

Tomorrow is Dusty’s birthday. Because we will be back on trail, we decided to celebrate tonight. Music Man bought a selection of ice cream bars, and some candles (okay, they were emergency candles, but you take what you can get). We lit the candles and sang Happy Birthday with Music Man accompanying on his strum stick (three stringed instrument he is carrying with him).
Happy Birthday, Dusty!
