Day 75-Too Many Rocks For My Taste
June 1-18.2 miles-Harpers Creek to campsite at 855.6

See the white blaze? Yep, that’s the trail. Delightful...not!

Rock ledge.

It’s to the left.

See the tall mountain? That’s what we had gone up and down just a few hours earlier. Looks so far away!

That’s Waynesboro Valley. We’ll be in Waynesboro tomorrow.

Don’t know the name of the place, though.

Then we discovered there was a trail to the top of the rock.
Dusty went back down and took my picture.
We still had about 3 miles to go. It was up, it was down, and there were still rocks. There was even a wall of rocks!
At least there were less rocks on the trail!

There were three. The other two were too far for a good photo.
Yes, it was another long one. Not our longest, but almost. The weather was perfect for a long day. It was sunny, but only in the 60s. We’ve discovered trying to do big miles on a hot day is just no fun.
Right out of the gate we had a big climb up Three Ridges Mtn. It was steep and rocky in many places.

There wasn’t really a view at the top, but just a bit later there was this.
Rock ledge.
The descent wasn’t as bad as yesterday’s from the Priest, but there were still lots of rocks. I really don’t like the rocks.
Eventually came down to the BRP, and followed along it for a bit.
It’s to the left.
We crossed the BRP at the overlook for Three Ridges Mtn.

We stopped about a half mile later for lunch. Dusty had eaten lunch at the same spot (it was a water source). I thought to myself, great minds think alike! Oh, and we have dubbed our little 3-person tramily “The Grands”, since we are all grandparents.
At lunch we still had 9 miles to go. The rocks continued off and on (more on than off). Did I mention I really don’t like rocks?
We came to a nice view from more rock ledges.

We crossed the Parkway yet again, but not at an overlook. We had to climb some more with more rocks. Geez, I really don’t like rocks! Dusty and I came up to a ledge where we could see a ski resort across the valley.
Don’t know the name of the place, though.
Then Dusty and I came to this big rock.

After awhile, I just went into zombie mode. My feet were tired of the rocks. My legs were tired of the rocks. I had a little mantra going on in my head that was, “I hate these rocks! I hate these rocks!” I did see a few deer when I could briefly look up from watching the rocks.
There were three. The other two were too far for a good photo.
Finally, after getting water at the water source, I made it to the campsite. It’s a nice spot with several flat tent spaces. And, since we did 18.2 today, we only have 8.something tomorrow into Waynesboro. Yay, town day!
By the way, did I tell you how much I hate rocks?
Hey! What footwear are you using?
ReplyDeleteDecided on the Colorado trail. Its open and ee arent sure when Glacier and Olympic nat parks will open.
Have fun,
