Day 89-Thumbing My Nose at the ATC, and Checking Out Harpers Ferry

June 15-0 miles-Harpers Ferry

It felt so good to sleep in this morning! I didn’t get up until after 7:00! We didn’t get our laundry back last night. Dusty went to ask, and it turns out Karen forgot about it in the washer. Oops.

We dawdled around until Dusty had some clothes, then we walked to the ATC Headquarters (which is closed, and say they won’t open until there is a vaccine...stupid). Still we took our photos out front.

The way I really feel about the ATC.

Then we walked on to the Post Office where I was able to pick up my new shirt, and send my puffy jacket home for awhile (until New Hampshire). Sure Foot picked up 4 boxes! His friend sent him some cookies that we all enjoyed. Thanks, Nancy!

Dusty and I took the EPTA (called “Pan Tran” by the locals) bus to Charlestown to the Walmart for resupply. It is normally $2.50 each way, but due to the virus, it was free. We only have to carry 2 1/2 days of food. I did pick up a couple of MH meals for dinners from the Outfitter, but got the rest from Wally World. There was a Subway in the store. I took the opportunity to check off a West Virginia Subway.

When I got back, Sawdust and his daughter (newly named Tag-a-Long) were at the hostel. They were staying at the Quality Inn. Sawdust will be continuing on tomorrow, but Tag-a-Long has to return home.

There’s lots of Civil War history here in Harpers Ferry. I won’t bore you with a ton of photos, but here’s a few.

The Harpers Ferry bandstand

Flood level marks. I saw a postcard of the 1985 flood. It showed kayakers paddling up the road in Harpers Ferry.

Old buildings (there’s a few here...duh).

Confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers.

Dusty is fixing spaghetti tonight for dinner. Karen said we could use her kitchen. I got a salad to go with it. Gonna be delicious!
