Day 120-Sometimes a Mid-Day Deli Stop Can Have Somnambulant Effects
July 16th-14 miles-Canopus Campsite to Morgan Stwert Shelter-AT mile 1440.8

Not so many rocks, as you can see.

This was the view.

RPH Cabin complete with gardens.

Actual bunks!

A curious feature.

Hey Flat Will and LB...would you want to sleep on those mattresses? No? Me neither. But, it would be nice to have the option.

Honey roasted turkey with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and honey mustard.

Sure Foot had roast beef.

It looks so pastoral!
And here is a really big maple tree!
First of all, a correction...it’s “Fairweather” not “Fairplay “.
I had a good night’s sleep last night, but could have slept longer this morning. It was cool and overcast...perfect weather for sleeping! Alas, I did not sleep longer. As we do everyday, we had miles to go before we could sleep again.
Surprisingly, the trail was pretty easy.

We climbed to the summit of Shenandoah Mountain where there was this painting on the rock.
This was the view.
Quicker than expected, we arrived at RPH Cabin (stands for Ralph’s Peak Hiker Cabin).

The pump was nonfunctional, but there were many jugs of water. There was even a trash can. The cabin is maintained by a church that is just down the road. We just enjoyed a snack, then continued on our way. Fairweather and Ultra were also there.
It was about five miles to our next stop at the Mountaintop Market and Deli. We had to road walk a half mile, but it was worth it.

We were definitely full. Walking back to the trail, I felt like I could take a little siesta. In fact, the remainder of the day’s hike (3.9 miles), felt like I was sleepwalking. Maybe the turkey made me sleepy. I guess I should have counter-acted it with more caffeine.
We had thought about maybe going further than the Morgan Stewart Shelter, but there really weren’t any good options within a reasonable distance. We’ll have 11 into Wingdale, NY tomorrow.
Here is my favorite photo today.
